Nanna's Kitchen

Where Parents Discover the Joy of Cooking for Their Kids, Creating Nourishing Moments
and Fostering Hope

At Nanna’s Kitchen, we provide a safe and welcoming space for families who are struggling with the lack of affordable housing. Our volunteer nannas will be on hand two nights a week to help share their knowledge and experience in the kitchen, as well as assist children with homework and other activities, giving parents a little bit of relief and support. Our aim is to create a community of support and empowerment, where families can come together through shared experiences and food.

We understand that the lack of affordable housing is a complex issue that requires a multifaceted approach, and while we cannot solve the housing crisis, we can provide a place for families to enjoy the little things that we take for granted, such as cooking a simple meal for their family.

A Haven of Support and Hope:

When parents find themselves without stable housing, they often struggle to provide basic necessities for their children. At Nanna's Kitchen, we strive to create a haven of support and hope. We want parents to know that they are not alone in their journey. Within our kitchen walls, they will find a warm and inviting atmosphere where they can connect with others facing similar situations, share their stories, and find comfort in the community.

What we offer
  • A Safe Space: In partnership with 1 Church our kitchen is more than just a place to cook. It is a sanctuary where parents can find solace, escape from the challenges of their daily lives, and receive emotional support from our compassionate team of Volunteer Nanna's and fellow parents.

  • Cooking Facilities: Equipped with kitchen appliances and utensils, Nanna's Kitchen provides parents with a fully functional cooking space. They can prepare nutritious meals and favorite snacks for their children, giving them a sense of normalcy and ensuring their dietary needs are met.

  • Support and Guidance: We believe in empowering parents with the skills and knowledge they need to create healthy meals on a budget. Our dedicated Volunteer Nanna's are on hand to help provide support and guidance on topics such as nutritious cooking, budgeting, and meal planning.

  • Homework Assistance: We understand the importance of education in breaking the cycle of homelessness. At Nanna's kitchen, we offer a space for children to focus on their studies. Volunteer Nanna's are available to provide homework assistance, and access to educational resources, ensuring that children can thrive academically despite their challenging circumstances.

  • Fun and Play: Childhood should not be defined by hardship. At Nanna's Kitchen, we organize various activities and play sessions to create moments of joy for children. Through arts and crafts, games, and storytelling, we aim to foster social interaction, boost self-esteem, and create positive memories for these resilient young individuals.

Join us in the Kitchen.

Nanna's Kitchen is built on the support and generosity of individuals, local businesses, organisations, and volunteers who believe in our mission "to nourish and improve the social, emotional, spiritual and economic wellbeing of people in the Mandurah and Bindjareb (Peel) community...". We welcome anyone who wants to make a difference in the lives of families in need. There are several ways to get involved:

  • Donations: Your financial contributions enable us to maintain the kitchen, provide essential supplies, and expand our reach to serve more families. Every donation, big or small, makes a significant impact.

  • Sponsorship Opportunities: Make a tangible difference in the lives of homeless parents and children. Your contribution provides essential resources, kitchen maintenance, and program expansion. Receive recognition benefits and join our compassionate community. Contact us to discuss sponsorship opportunities and create lasting impact.

  • Volunteer Opportunities: We rely on the dedication and time of volunteers to run our programs smoothly. Whether you can assist in the kitchen, offer tutoring services, or organise recreational activities for children, your involvement is invaluable.
